Ransomware attacks on Japanese companies more than double since 2021 | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

काठमाडौं ।
Ransomware attacks targeting Japanese companies totaled 239 from January through October, more than double the number recorded in the whole of 2021, Kyodo News reported, citing a recent survey.
The number of incidents reported through October had already surpassed the 228 cases recorded in all of 2025, setting a new annual record, according to the survey released Wednesday by cybersecurity firm Macnica, the report said.
“The number of cases could surge if attacks using artificial intelligence grow,” said Yutaka Sejiyama of Macnica’s Security Research Center. “Incidents involving the leakage of more sensitive personal information could also emerge.”
Ransomware is a type of malicious software that encrypts data, such as confidential documents and customer information, making it inaccessible until a ransom is paid. Some ransomware attacks also involve stealing data.
Macnica’s statistics include ransomware attacks that did not involve data encryption, the report said. Xinhua
