Welcome Savings Bank, which suffered a data breach exposing the personal information of 2,117 people, is moving to obtain Information Security Management System and Personal Information Management System (ISMS-P) certification. The bank renewed its ISMS certification on the 3rd of this month and has begun preparing to obtain ISMS-P certification, according to financial industry sources on the 6th. “We do not plan to stop at ISMS, and we will prepare for ISMS-P certification as well,” a company official said.ISMS is a certification program that reviews whether a company’s or institution’s information security management framework meets set standards. ISMS-P goes further, examining the management framework for personal information — including how such data is collected, used, provided to third parties and destroyed — in addition to the existing information security framework.Welcome Savings Bank is also reviewing additional measures to strengthen security beyond ISMS-P certification. It is in talks with outside vendors on adopting security solutions and is considering reflecting an expansion of information security staff and budget in next year’s business plan, sources said.Other savings banks are also overhauling their information security frameworks. The K Savings Bank is pursuing an outsourced “information security operations and management support” project as it prepares to obtain ISMS-P certification. DB Savings Bank appointed a chief information security officer (CISO) effective the 1st of this month.
