SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Sangamon County officials have charged a Springfield man and registered sex offender on eight counts of child sexual abuse material.The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office said detectives took 32-year-old Ross Boner of Goodwin Court in Springfield into custody at his home around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.The Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation began in August after an adult victim reported a sexual assault.On a search warrant, detectives looked through Boner’s phone and found images of child sexual abuse material. A second phone was taken from Boner after he was arrested.According to the Sheriff’s Office, Boner is a registered sex offender after he was convicted in 2013 for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.Boner remains in custody at the Sangamon County Jail until his first court appearance.Copyright 2026 WAND.
