In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Delhi Government has announced that the upcoming Abhibhavak Shikshak Samvaad (Parent-Teacher Dialogue) on July 25 will be dedicated to child safety and protection.
The citywide programme, part of the ongoing Child Safety Month, aims to bring parents and schools together to strengthen awareness on child protection, emotional well-being and online safety.
The programme will be held across all government, government aided, private recognised, MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board schools as the concluding event of Child Safety Month, being observed throughout July.
The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration between parents and schools in creating a safer environment for children.
During the interaction, teachers will discuss key issues such as protection under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, emotional well-being, responsible digital behaviour and ways to identify and respond to signs of abuse or bullying.
Education Minister Ashish Sood said, “A child’s safety is more important than any report card. Schools and parents must work as equal partners to ensure that every child feels safe, respected and empowered to speak up. Education is meaningful only when children learn in an environment free from fear.”
The interactions will take place on Saturday, July 25, in two shifts, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm for evening shift schools.
Teachers will engage parents on topics, including safe and unsafe touch, body autonomy, the “No Go Tell” principle, online safety, cyberbullying, online grooming, the role of School Child Protection Committees, recognising emotional distress, and encouraging open communication between parents and children.
Class teachers will also meet parents individually to discuss each child’s overall development while reinforcing safety awareness.
To ensure maximum participation, schools have been directed to maintain attendance records and personally reach out to parents who are unable to attend through phone calls, SMS or written communication, inviting them for a follow-up interaction.
Senior officers of the Directorate of Education will also visit schools to monitor the implementation of the programme.
The Delhi Government said the initiative reflects its commitment to making schools not only centres of academic excellence but also spaces where children feel secure, respected and protected.
The Education Minister further emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in child protection, stating, “Creating safe schools is not the responsibility of teachers alone. It is a shared commitment of schools, parents and society. When awareness begins at home and is reinforced in school, every child becomes stronger, safer and more confident.”
