Adam Dean Hoffman has officially been registered as a sex offender in Nebraska on two charges from McLennan County.

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Former Waco Attorney Adam Dean Hoffman is officially listed in the Nebraska sex offender registry based on his charges on Texas.

Hoffman accepted a plea deal in McLennan County in a case involving allegations of continuous sexual abuse of a child. After the first trial ended in a hung jury, Hoffman pleaded guilty to reduced misdemeanor charges that drew widespread public criticism over what many considered a lenient outcome.

Hoffman was initially sentenced to 30 days in prison as part of the plea deal, though the sentence was later doubled by a judge after public backlash. Hoffman was released less than halfway into the 60-day sentence.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Hoffman was not required to register as a sex offender in Texas. Hoffman, who now lives in Nebraska, was served an order to register as a sex offender in Nebraska in early June.

Nebraska state law requires a person with an equivalent charge from another state to register as a sex offender in Nebraska, regardless of whether they are required to register in that state, the Nebraska State Patrol told 6 News. A Nebraska Sheriff’s Deputy said Hoffman’s charge of indecent assault is equivalent to Nebraska’s 3rd degree sexual assault charge, requiring him to be added to the state’s registry.

Hoffman is now officially listed in the Nebraska sex offender registry under two charges from McLennan County, one count of Sale, Distribution or Display of Harmful Material to a Minor Class A and one count of Indecent Assault Misdemeanor.

He will reportedly have a chance to be removed from the registry in 10 years.

Hoffman also officially submitted paperwork to resign his law license on June 9, months after being ordered to do so by a judge. The Texas Supreme Court must now issue an order accepting the license resignation, at which point Hoffman’s profile will be updated to reflect that he is no longer allowed to practice law in Texas.

Hoffman’s case was prosecuted by the Texas Attorney General’s Office after the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office recused itself from the case.
