AG Wilson, lawmakers back bill to speed up tracking of child predators | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson joined lawmakers and sheriffs in calling for the passage of a bill aimed at accelerating the process of catching child predators.

The bill, S. 74, would authorize law enforcement officers, circuit solicitors, or the attorney general to subpoena electronic records to determine whether they were used to upload or download child sexual abuse material.

Attorney General Wilson and supporting lawmakers argue that the bill would significantly speed up the identification of individuals involved in sharing or downloading such material.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Wilson noted that obtaining these records through the U.S. Attorney’s Office can take days or even weeks.

However, under S. 74, Wilson would be able to subpoena the records directly, provided he obtains a warrant from a judge.
