With this, the complaints registered by the people will be lodged via AI, thus ensuring less errors and quick redressal. The AI will then fetch the details and will automatically populate in the system.

Mohit Chawla, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), State Cyber Crime, said that the aim of incorporating AI in dealing with cybercrime issues is to handle complaints more effectively and ensure timely resolution.

“When a complaint is made on the toll free cybercrime helpline number, the call is taken by National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) teller, who then records the data provided by the complainant; which is then uploaded in the NCRB portal. It being a manual process, many times it has been noticed that the complaints that are registered take a long time in registration.

“By incorporating AI, the complaints will be lodged much quicker as there will be no human intervention, thus ensuring quick redressal,” he added.

According to the cybercrime cell of the state, over 500 complaints of cybercrime are daily being reported across the state. Most of the cybercrimes include cases such as digital arrests, sextortion, promising people exorbitant returns on the pretext of investment in share market, cryptocurrency market and other such financial and derivatives markets, fake sim card and Aadhaar card updating calls, fake loan offers, etc. The scammers are also using fake news and its video links as well as using AI based technology to dupe people.

Police has advised the people to refrain from attending calls and messages from unknown and suspicious numbers and not to share any sensitive information such as personal or financial information to anyone. People have also been advised to immediately report and incident of cybercrime by dialling toll-free cybercrime helpline number 1930.
