Air Names David Kensick COO to Support National Security Platform Growth

Air has appointed David Kensick as chief operating officer, adding an operations executive with experience in technology, aviation and military leadership as the company scales its Enterprise Readiness platform for U.S. national security customers.

Kensick joins Air’s executive leadership team during a period of rapid expansion for the AI software company, which provides data-driven readiness and operational planning tools to federal agencies and all branches of the U.S. military. Following its unicorn valuation in 2025, Air said it is strengthening its operational infrastructure to support continued triple-digit annual growth and increasing demand for its enterprise software platform.

Chief Executive Officer Tara Murphy Dougherty said Kensick’s blend of corporate operating experience and military leadership makes him well suited to guide the company’s next phase of expansion.

“David brings a rare combination of corporate expertise, strategic vision, and deep military mission understanding that is essential for this next chapter of Air’s expansion,” Murphy Dougherty said. “As the Department of War moves to embrace commercial innovation at speed, David’s leadership will ensure our internal operations are as agile and high-performing as the solutions we provide our customers.”

As COO, Kensick will oversee Air’s global business operations, with responsibility for scaling the company’s internal processes, operational infrastructure and execution capabilities as it expands deployment of its Enterprise Readiness platform. The software is designed to integrate development, production, delivery and sustainment data into a single operational system that helps defense organizations identify capacity constraints, coordinate resources and improve mission readiness.

Kensick joins Air from digital identity company ID.me, where he served as chief experience officer and led operational initiatives supporting more than 150 million users. Before that, he spent more than 15 years at United Airlines, holding several senior leadership roles, including managing director of global operations and the airline’s operations center. There, he oversaw worldwide logistics, crisis response and technology integration initiatives aimed at improving operational performance across the carrier’s network.

His leadership experience also includes more than two decades in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an F-16 pilot and squadron commander, leading personnel and operations in high-pressure mission environments. Kensick also holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Kensick said Air is helping reshape how software and data support military readiness and operational execution across the national security enterprise.

“Air is leading a fundamental shift in how the United States maintains its competitive advantage through software and data that drive readiness,” he said. “I am honored to join a team so deeply committed to the national security mission. I look forward to helping Air deliver the speed, scale, and reliability that our national security partners require.”

Formerly known as Govini, Air has repositioned its business around Enterprise Readiness, an AI-native software platform designed to improve coordination across defense acquisition, production, logistics and sustainment workflows. The company serves customers across the federal government and every branch of the U.S. military, helping organizations gain greater operational visibility and align resources with mission requirements.

The company was recently ranked No. 18 on the 2026 NatSec100 list of leading venture-backed defense and dual-use technology companies, marking the largest year-over-year rise of any company included in this year’s rankings. Air said Kensick’s appointment reflects its continued investment in operational scalability as it expands its technology platform and supports the evolving needs of the U.S. national security enterprise.
