A new study has revealed that Alaska is the fourth-safest state in the nation for cyber scam losses targeting senior citizens.
Las Vegas-based H&P Law analyzed average annual cybercrimes against seniors and the resulting financial losses, average annual losses, and average losses per cyber crime across all 50 states from 2021 to 2025. Alaska placed fourth in the country with an average annual loss of $20,351 per cyber crime.
The state’s annual loss per crime was $2,044 more than third-place Ohio, $5,443 more than first-place Indiana, and $31,131 fewer than last-place California.
Alaska seniors lost over $45 million to cyber crimes over the five-year period, with an average annual loss of $9,007,447, the sixth-fewest in the country. The amount was $285,275 more than fifth-place West Virginia, over $4.6 million more than first-place North Dakota, and over $756 million fewer than last-place California.
Alaska recorded an average of 442.6 cybercrimes against seniors per year during the five years, also the sixth-fewest in the country. The total was 117 more than fifth-place Rhode Island, 284 more than first-place North Dakota, and over 14,400 fewer than California in last place.
“Alaska’s average loss of $20,351 per cyber crime was substantially lower than the figures recorded in California, New Jersey, and Hawaii,” the study stated. “California recorded the highest average loss among the comparison states at $51,482 per cyber crime, more than twice Alaska’s figure.”
