Conservative backbencher Amanda Stoker has been sworn in as the new child safety and domestic violence minister for David Crisafulli’s government following the resignation of Amanda Camm on Friday. The Premier announced Ms Stoker’s appointment and the addition of Natalie Marr to the assistant ministry at Government House on Saturday. The Oodgeroo MP will also become the minister for families, seniors and disability services, after Ms Camm stepped down citing ongoing health concerns. The sudden resignation has triggered the first reshuffle in the frontbench since Mr Crisafulli became premier in 2024.”Ms Stoker brings a wealth of experience from her time serving at the private bar, where she practiced in commercial law, administrative law and corporate crime,” the Premier said.”Amanda is stepping in to continue delivering critical reform for better protection of children and victims of crime.”Her job is to build on the foundations of reform set in motion by Amanda Camm. “She will implement the Government’s response to the Commission of Inquiry, with fewer children in residential care and more in foster care and adoption.”He said Ms Stoker would also work to refine the nation-leading domestic and family violence laws, by rolling out the perpetrator electronic monitoring pilot across Queensland.  The 43-year-old served at the private bar, where she practiced in commercial law, administrative law and corporate crime.   During her time as an Australian Senator, she served as Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General and as Assistant Minister for both Industrial Relations and Women. She also chaired the senate legal and constitutional affairs legislation committee, and worked as deputy chair of the legal and constitutional affairs references committee.Mr Crisaffuli also announced that Ms Marr would take on the role of Assistant Minister of Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, following Ms Stoker’s promotion to the ministry. Ms Camm has denied that her decision to step down was influenced by extensive criticism of her duties and personal life. The embattled MP has been under scrutiny recently after it was revealed that children in residential care were sleeping on the floor of child safety offices. She also faced backlash after state budget papers revealed DV funding had been slashed by nearly $40 million, announced in July 2026.Ms Camm has also failed to provide a comprehensive progress update on the implementations of recommendations made by the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce, which was established to combat domestic violence and coercive control. Earlier this year, Ms Camm was also embroiled in a scandal when her romantic relationship with Olympics Minister Tim Mander came to light. The pair said the extramarital affair began in June 2023, yet they were temporarily broken up when they were sworn in as ministers in November 2024, which is why they did not declare the relationship. They released a joint statement at the time denying they were in a relationship when they were sworn in as ministers. At last year’s budget, Ms Camm’s Families Department provided a $3.1m grant to a men’s shed in Mr Mander’s electorate. In the same budget, Mr Mander’s Sport Department granted $50,000 to a surf lifesaving club in Ms Camm’s electorate, which Ms Camm served as a patron of.At the time, the opposition labelled the scandal an “integrity crisis” and called for a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation.Read related topics:Brisbane NewsDavid Crisafulli
