Anchorage Police are reminding residents to stay alert as phone and online scams continue to target the public.
Police say you should never give personal or sensitive information to an unknown caller or respond to unexpected requests for payment.
Officials also warn that scammers may send emails that appear to come from government agencies. Legitimate Municipality of Anchorage email addresses end with @anchorageak.gov. Look-alike addresses using different domains are not official.
If you receive a suspicious call, email, or text, don’t respond or send money. Instead, contact the agency directly using a trusted phone number or website to verify the request.
If you believe you’ve been targeted by an online scam or cybercrime, Anchorage Police encourage you to report it through the Internet Crime Complaint Center and file a report with the Anchorage Police Department.
If you’re ever unsure about a citation, warrant, or other police matter, contact the Anchorage Police Department directly before taking any action.
