And now the OM-3 got hacked too! – 43 Rumors | #hacker

A new Github hack creates a custom OM-3 firmware
What it does (via Reddit)
It turns the OM-3’s Color Profile wheel (COLOR 1–4) into a full colour editor and film-look system:

Film page: 5 saved looks per COLOR profile (20 total), each with its own name under the wheel (Velvia, Portra, whatever you call it). Turn the dial to switch looks.
Hue and Light per colour: two new wheel pages next to the stock Saturation page, so you can shift and brighten or darken each of the 12 colour slices separately.
Extras page, saved per look:

NR: Camera / Std / Low / Off, applied per shot without touching your menu setting
Glow ↔ Clarity: soft highlight bloom one way, local contrast the other
WB shift: amber/blue and green/magenta, on top of your white balance
Art Effects on COLOR photos: Star Light, Pin Hole, White Edge, and a clean white Frame border (no more rough black edge)
Blacks / Whites: the two ends of the tone curve

Glow and Art Effects show in live view.
A look also stores Contrast, Sharpness, Shading and Shadows/Midtones/Highlights. Picking a look sets all of it at once.

Control Panel (web app)
There’s a browser editor, the Caduceus Control Panel, shared with the E-P7 version (there’s a camera switch at the top). It has a built-in library of film looks you can load, tweak, preview and export straight to your SD card. It runs in your browser; nothing to install.

Install
You need an OM-3 on firmware 1.1 and a computer with Python 3.

Download the project from GitHub and double-click the launcher (Mac or Windows).
It fetches the official OM-3 1.1 firmware from OM’s own update server, checks it byte for byte, and applies the patch. No OM firmware is distributed: the project only contains its own code.
Copy two folders to your card, hold OK while switching the camera on, and wait about two minutes.

Going back to stock works the same way: the launcher also saves the official firmware for you.

Coming next

Lens vignette correction per look (VigFix, as in Caduceus): working on my camera, in the next release.
Film grain on colour photos: the camera’s built-in grain only works in monochrome, so I’m writing our own. It’s in active testing.

The fine print
This is an unofficial, experimental firmware modification, not affiliated with OM Digital Solutions. It’s been tested on my own camera, but use it at your own risk. Read the safety section in the README before flashing. It’s open source (Apache 2.0).
Bug reports, look recipes and feedback are very welcome. Open an issue on GitHub or comment here. And huge thanks to cakelesscoder for Caduceus: none of this exists without their work.
