NEWS RELEASE
ANISHINABEK POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Anishinabek Police Service (APS) is aware of the reported cybersecurity incident involving Navigate360, the third-party platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across North America.
We recognize the seriousness of this matter, particularly given the critical importance of protecting the anonymity, confidentiality, and safety of individuals who provide information to assist investigations. The safety of members of the public, tipsters, and police personnel is paramount. While APS and Crime Stoppers have worked closely together for many years in support of community safety, Crime Stoppers operates as an independent organization, and its tip management platform is not connected to APS systems. The reported breach does not involve police internal systems.
Public trust is essential to the success of any reporting platform, and we recognize the importance of maintaining confidence in the security and confidentiality of information shared by members of the public. Our service has been made aware that some data related to Crime Stoppers programs that serve our communities was included in the breach. As a result, APS is suspending its use of Crime Stoppers while it reviews the information that has become available and assesses the additional safeguards and security measures being implemented by Crime Stoppers and its service providers.
We recognize the important role Crime Stoppers has played in supporting community safety and investigations over many years and appreciate the seriousness with which it is approaching this matter. Members of the public who have provided tips in the past and have questions regarding the breach, the scope of any affected information, and measures taken in response are directed to contact the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association (CCSA).
Anyone with information about a crime or public safety concern in one of our communities can contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Non-emergency crime tips can continue to be submitted through the Anishinabek Police Service online reporting system. Please note that these are not anonymous reporting options. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
