Anthropic has announced that its newest artificial intelligence model, named Mythos, possesses capabilities too advanced for public release, specifically due to its proficiency in identifying and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities. The company stated that evolving AI systems are becoming both more capable and significantly more hazardous, warning that the consequences for economies, public safety, and national security could be serious, according to the source.

Investor reaction has already caused share prices of certain companies to decline on this emerging threat, and further drops could occur if malicious actors or hostile nations leverage Mythos to create disruption. Three sectors identified as most exposed to share-price turbulence are cybersecurity, banking, and cryptocurrency stocks. Within these sectors, specific companies that could experience more pronounced negative effects include Okta (NASDAQ: OKTA), JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM), and Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN).

These firms are not necessarily more susceptible to cyberattacks from Mythos than others, but their leading market positions could make their stock prices particularly vulnerable. Okta, which provides identity and access management services to help clients establish secure access hierarchies for data and files, serves over 20,000 customers, many of which are prominent enterprises. Its share price dropped following the initial announcement of Mythos. If someone were to exploit a security vulnerability using Mythos after its official release, investors would likely respond similarly by selling shares and driving the price down rapidly. Okta’s stock has already fallen approximately 24% over the past year, and a major cyberattack involving Mythos against any company would probably not improve investor sentiment toward the stock.

JPMorgan Chase, the world’s largest bank by market capitalization, could feel the impact of a financial breach caused by Mythos even if it is not the direct target of the incident.
