Keith Butler, 40, of New Oxford, and Travis Hartlaub, 25, of Mt. Joy Township, were arrested on charges related to the sexual abuse of children, authorities say.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett on Monday announced the arrests of two suspected child predators.
Keith David Butler, 40, of New Oxford, and Travis Clay Hartlaub, 25, of Mt. Joy Township, were both charged earlier this month with offenses related to the sexual abuse of children, Sinnett said in a press release.
“June is Internet Safety Month, and the Adams County District Attorney’s Office wishes to raise awareness of the dangers that children face in today’s online community,” Sinnett said. “The Internet — while an extraordinary tool when used correctly — poses distinct risks, especially with AI’s rapid advances. Every child is vulnerable.”
Butler was arrested June 9 on charges of possession and dissemination of child sex abuse materials, according to Sinnett. Adams County detectives working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleging he had shared video files of child sex abuse material on the online messaging service Kik, authorities said.
Butler’s alleged offenses occurred in February of this year, according to charging documents.
Hartlaub was arrested on June 10, Sinnett said. Charging documents allege the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted local authorities with allegations that he exchanged explicit videos with a child he had met online. He is charged with unlawful contact with a minor, possession of child sex abuse materials and related offenses by members of the ICAC Task Force, according to Sinnett.
The victim in the case was a 16-year-old boy, according to charging documents.
