Actor-singer and UNICEF India National Ambassador Ayushmann Khurrana has drawn attention to the safety and educational challenges faced by children in rural Maharashtra. During a visit to a village in Jalna district, Khurrana received letters from local girls describing how poor road conditions contribute to school dropouts, especially among female students.
The visit was part of a UNICEF-supported programme focused on improving rural infrastructure and child safety. Khurrana personally handed the letters to the District Collector and engaged in discussions with officials regarding the issue. “One of the young girls handed us a letter. She explained that the road conditions to reach the school often force children, especially girls, to drop out of education because they do not feel safe. We personally handed those letters to the District Collector today, and I believe they will address the issue; we also discussed it with them,” he told the media.

Khurrana emphasised the importance of prioritising rural development for the welfare of future generations, stating, “The message to society is that we must be more conscious of our efforts regarding future generations. Seventy per cent of India lives in villages, and if our villages do not flourish, how can our country progress.”
The visit marked Khurrana’s first rural field trip for UNICEF, although he has previously participated in UNICEF campaigns in cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, as well as at the Women’s World Cup. He said, “This is my first rural field visit. I have participated in many UNICEF campaigns in Delhi, Mumbai and at the Women’s World Cup, but this is the first time I have experienced UNICEF’s grassroots operations firsthand. I look forward to continuing this work in the future.”
During the visit, attention was centred on improving infrastructure and eliminating barriers to education for children, particularly girls, caused by unsafe access to schools.
In his film career, Ayushmann Khurrana was recently featured in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. He is set to appear in Sooraj Barjatya’s Ye Prem Mol Lia alongside Sharvari. Additionally, he will star in Udta Teer, co-starring Sara Ali Khan, produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, which is scheduled for release on October 9.
