In a significant development for city safety, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced a sharp decline in criminal and cybercrime cases in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period in the past two years.
At a press meet held Tuesday, Dayananda revealed that cybercrime cases had dropped by 39%, with 2,838 cases reported between January and March this year, down from 4,674 in 2024 and 3,588 in 2023. Other crimes also showed notable declines:
Dayananda credited the drop to the Safe City initiative, which includes increased CCTV surveillance, enhanced patrolling, and the use of the Mobile Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (MCCTNS) during night operations. Bengaluru now boasts over five lakh CCTV cameras, a significant jump from the three lakh operational last year.
Adding to the city’s positive report card, a study conducted by a Hyderabad-based university has ranked Bengaluru as the safest city in India, based on their independent parameters.
While these stats mark encouraging progress, officials emphasize continued vigilance and smarter policing to maintain the downward trend.
