NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A teenager could be punished under state law for committing an act of harassment by engaging in bullying or cyberbullying.
House Bill 1025 was heard on the House floor this week. It was passed, with 85 ayes and 10 noes.
It has moved to the Governor’s desk for signature.
The bill will suspend a teen’s driving privileges or their ability to get a driver’s license for one year if they are found to have engaged in bullying or cyberbullying.
A similar bill was filed in the Senate. SB0170 was recommended for passage with amendments on April 1. It was passed unanimously in the Senate, 26-0.
The bill, when signed, will take effect on July 1, 2025.
