Boise, Idaho (CBS2) — The Boise Police Department (BPD) is urging teens, parents and young adults to think twice before attending or promoting parties on social media, as officers respond to a growing number of weekend gatherings that are getting out of hand.
BPD said posts that include party details are being reshared across social media and other apps, drawing uninvited guests from across the Treasure Valley.
At one party near downtown Boise this past weekend, close to 100 high school students from both Ada and Canyon counties were reported to have shown up and entered uninvited, leading to calls for police assistance.
Recent problems tied to these parties have included fights, overconsumption and minor-in-possession incidents. Police said that while sharing party details online is not a new issue, there has been a clear escalation in associated problems in recent weeks.

Parents are encouraged to talk with their teens about the risks of underage drinking and overconsumption. Teens and young adults are urged to think twice before showing up to a stranger’s party and not to let friends or a social media post make a dangerous situation seem like a good time. Police also warned against sharing, or allowing friends to share, details of a private party with strangers online, saying uninvited guests can make situations unpredictable and may lead to unwanted criminal activity and safety concerns.
Police said they have been increasing party patrols to encourage safe behavior, and the department’s DUI team will also be out on patrol this weekend.
