Brickfields level crossing, near Upminster in the London Borough of Havering, was closed on September 30 after repeated incidents of dangerous misuse by children and teenagers.
Their behaviour, captured during a recent survey, included distractions such as handstands, using mobile phones, and racing across the tracks to beat oncoming trains.
Shenel Bullock, route health and safety manager for Network Rail Anglia, said: “The safety of the public is our absolute priority, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily close Brickfields level crossing.
“We understand this closure may inconvenience some local people, but we cannot ignore the significant risks posed by this behaviour.
“This temporary closure gives us the opportunity to assess what further measures may be needed to keep people safe.
“We are asking parents, carers, teachers and the wider community to help us reinforce this vital safety message.
“Every railway safety conversation could help prevent a tragedy.”
The crossing is on a line used by around 230 trains each day.

It was initially closed for 21 days but will remain shut while further safety measures are considered.
Network Rail is working with British Transport Police and local partners to address the issue, including delivering safety talks in schools.
The crossing will stay closed until all year groups have received the educational presentation.
A diversion is in place via Nightingale Avenue, Moore Lane, Front Lane, and St Marys Lane.
