In response to a growing body of evidence about the harm social media can do, the federal government is planning to ban Canadian children under the age of 16 from using it. Australia was first to do this and governments around the world have been accelerating their plans to implement age restrictions that limit what young people are exposed to while online. At same time, social media companies are under pressure to embed measures into their platforms rather that putting the onus on parents and governments. Mackenzie Gray reports.
