Federal authorities have arrested a Canadian cybersecurity executive and ransomware expert as part of an investigation into a major hack involving agents’ data, according to court documents and people familiar with the investigation.
Edward Dubrovsky was arrested in the Philadelphia area in recent days and appeared in federal court there Thursday. He is facing extortion conspiracy and threats charges.
Dubrovsky has since been transferred to Texas for a scheduled detention hearing.
Sources said an investigation is ongoing into other people believed to be involved in the hack. Dubrovsky did not respond to requests for comment.
