More than 800,000 Texas resident have had their personal information released from the files of Carnival Corporation, the cruise lines giant, in a data-hacking incident.

In all, 6-million people have likely had their personal information compromised in the attack, which wasn’t the usual exploitative attack on data systems but instead concentrated on a focused attack against a single Carnival employee, who was deceived into allowing the hack to occur.

Carnival said the Texans whose data was breached were mostly customers of the cruise lines, most of them who traveled through Gulf of America ports such as Galveston.

The information that was hacked include a wide array of data including drivers license and passport numbers, along with the usual names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, email addresses and more found in most such attacks.

Carnival sent out a notice on Wednesday to its customers, informing them of the data breach that occurred on April 14th, offering customers credit-monitoring services and in some cases help from third-party security experts.

The company announced last week a new cruise ship, the Tropicale, which will make Galveston its home port beginning in 2028.
