COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – A man was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences plus 40 years in confinement after a jury convicted him on 10 felony counts related to assaults against two victims.

Eevon Battee was convicted on two counts of aggravated child molestation, two counts of rape, one count of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of child molestation and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Don Kelly.

Battee rejected a plea offer of 25 years to serve followed by life on probation and sex offender conditions and chose to take the case to trial. A jury was sworn Monday and reached a guilty verdict on all counts Wednesday.

The charges stemmed from multiple assaults against two victims over several years, starting in 2018 when the girls were ages 13-15. The victims did not know each other but each met Battee through family members.

Superior Court Judge Maureen Gottfried presided over the three-day trial. The jury returned a verdict after an hour of deliberation. Judge Gottfried sentenced Battee after hearing argument from both sides.

“I want to thank the investigators at the Columbus Police Department, our community partners at Children’s Tree House, and Assistant District Attorney Meghan Bowden for their hard work in bringing this case to a successful resolution,” Kelly said. “Children are a special class of victims that my office works tirelessly to protect. We will continue to fight against child predators in this community.”

Battee was arrested by the Columbus Police Department’s Special Victims Unit in November 2020.
