Authorities arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a child in Poteet while he was livestreaming on TikTok after more than a year on the run.
ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of sexually assaulting a child in Atascosa County was arrested after investigators tracked him down while he was livestreaming on TikTok, authorities said.
The investigation began in April 2025 after the alleged assault in the Poteet area. Investigators identified the suspect as Omar Gavarette Portillo, who also used the name “Machetillo Portillo” on TikTok.
Authorities said Portillo, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, had no local identification or traditional employment records, making him difficult to locate.
The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Poteet Police Department and eventually determined he was in Harris County. Deputies arrested him while he was broadcasting live on social media.
Officials said the arrest came after more than a year of investigative work and serves as a reminder that “distance is not protection” for those accused of harming children.
