PRINCETON, Texas — A cybersecurity incident in Princeton could have exposed personal and identifiable information, according to officials.
WFAA first reported the incident in September when the City of Princeton originally said there were no signs of any data being compromised.
Scans during the early part of the investigation did not show any signs of personal information being leaked or compromised, according to a post from the city. However, a third-party investigation indicates that personally identifiable information was exfiltrated. The city is now working with cybersecurity professionals to determine what information was involved and which individuals were specifically affected.
City officials state they will notify impacted individuals personally in accordance with the law and help provide resources to protect their information, including identity protection and credit monitoring services.
The City of Princeton takes its responsibility to protect the privacy and security of personal information, officials said. The investigation remains ongoing.
