Border agents in Texas have had yet another busy past couple of days, as not only did they stop a massive shipment of cocaine from entering the country, they also arrested a wanted man convicted of sexual assault towards a child.

Cocaine Bust Along Texas Border

On June 24, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle for secondary inspection at the Hidalgo Port of Entry. It was here where 20 packages of alleged cocaine were found, totaling 47.93 pounds. The estimated street value of this haul? $639,938.

The vehicle and narcotics were seized by field operations officers, and the driver of the car was arrested as a criminal investigation was launched.

Child Abuser Caught Along Texas Border

Get this, the same day on June 24, CBP officers also detained a man wanted in New Mexico, this time at the Progreso Port of Entry, about 30 miles west of Brownsville, TX.

The man, 22-year-old and U.S. citizen Arnoldo Jaramillo, was sent to secondary inspection where biometric scanning confirmed he was indeed the man wanted out of New Mexico for rape of a child.

Progreso/Donna Port of Entry Port Director Michael Martinez used this opportunity to highlight the important work that border agents undergo each and every day:

These types of apprehensions perfectly illustrate the law enforcement work undertaken by our officers in securing our borders and keeping our communities safe.

Jaramillo was then transferred over to the Donna Police Department where he will remain in jail until he appears before a judge.
