Coimbatore cybercrime police arrest Madhya Pradesh native for online cheating | #cybercrime | #infosec


The cybercrime police in Coimbatore have arrested a man hailing from Madhya Pradesh for cheating a woman from the city of ₹13 lakh in a courier scam.

The arrested has been identified as Sandev Tiwari, 34, son of Santhosh Tiwari from Purana Bazar in Sagar District, Madhya Pradesh.

He has been booked for offences under Sections 318(4), 319 (2), 204, 336 (2), 336 (3), 340 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 66 D of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act earlier this year, based on a complaint lodged by the woman from Coimbatore.

According to the police, the accused contacted the woman posing as an enforcement official, stating that her credentials had been used for the despatch of a parcel, which contained contraband items, from Mumbai to Singapore. Subsequently, the fraudster accessed her bank account on the pretext of a verification by the Reserve Bank of India. She was duped of a total of ₹13,00,432.

The woman approached the cybercrime station, and the police were on the lookout for the accused. A special team arrested the accused from his State and brought him to Coimbatore on Friday.
