HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Advocates will be in Hartford on Friday to highlight a bill that aims to protect young people from sports betting ads.

The measure could ban social media companies from targeting kids and teenagers.

Bettors must be at least 21 years old to bet on sports in Connecticut.

The state Department of Consumer Protection said it has received more than 200 reports of underage betting in the last year.

Advocates argued that people who gamble at a young age are more likely to develop gambling problems.
