KOOTENAI COUNTY — A man convicted in Kootenai County’s largest child pornography case will face a parole hearing next week, prompting his own daughter to campaign for his continued imprisonment.
Edmund Bergeman, who has served 20 years in an Arizona prison, is scheduled for a parole hearing on May 1. The Twin Lakes man pleaded guilty in 2007 to drugging and sexually abusing three young girls, raping an unconscious woman and possessing 15,000 pictures and videos of child pornography.
His daughter Rebecca Brady fears her father poses a continued threat if released.
“The community, I feel like, wouldn’t be safe no matter where he’s at,” Brady said. “I don’t feel like any female child, adult, it doesn’t matter. I don’t feel like anybody would be safe if he was to be released.”
Brady is encouraging community members to contact Idaho’s parole victim services to oppose her father’s release. Letters must be received by this Friday.
“Maybe write a letter and explain to the parole why you don’t feel safe if he was to be released in the community,” Brady said.
Brady, who lives in Arizona, has written her own letter to the Idaho Department of Corrections expressing safety concerns. She said she would not feel safe by herself if her father was released.
If Bergeman receives parole, he will be transported back to Idaho.
