Convicted child predator who faked death is transferred to state prison
DELANO, Calif. —
Carl Cacconie, a convicted child predator who faked his death is now at the North Kern State Prison in Delano. The 52-year-old was arrested in Arizona last month after spending 10 months on the run.
Jailhouse footage obtained by KCRA 3 shows Cacconie being booked into the Maricopa County Jail last month. The video captures him having his mugshot taken, sitting in a holding cell, and later being escorted in black-and-white prison attire to a jail cell.
Cacconie vanished last summer after a jury in El Dorado County found him guilty of sex crimes against an 11-year-old girl. His family claimed he left behind a suicide note.
After KCRA 3 aired an investigation in May, the FBI secured a federal warrant and arrested Cacconie in Arizona.
Judge Michael McLaughlin, who was criticized for allowing Cacconie to leave court on the day of his guilty verdicts, has since sentenced him to the maximum 18 years in prison.
Cacconie was transferred to state prison last week and is not eligible for parole until October of 2040, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Placer County District Attorney Vern Pierson pledged to charge anyone who helped hide Cacconie, but as of Monday night, no charges have been filed. The District Attorney’s Office has also not filed additional charges against Cacconie for fleeing.
