Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) on Wednesday organised a massive statewide awareness campaign on trends in cybercrime at colleges, medical institutions, private offices, public gathering points, and bus stands as part of Cyber Jagrukta Diwas.
TGCSB director Shikha Goel said that citizens were sensitised on the fake Instagram sari or clothing pages. Fraudsters create polished Instagram pages showcasing sarees and garments using stolen images, offering deep discounts to lure victims.
Payments are collected via UPI and e-wallets, but no products are delivered, or substandard items are sent. These pages often lack refund policies or verified business credentials. Citizens were advised to verify sellers, look for reviews, and avoid newly created or suspicious accounts.
“Scammers approach individuals with easy online job offers involving tasks like liking videos. Small incentives are initially paid to build trust, after which victims are coaxed into investing larger amounts to unlock “higher rewards”. These scams vanish once money is transferred. TGCSB cautioned the public to be wary of job offers that demand upfront investments and operate exclusively on WhatsApp/Telegram,” Shikha Goel said.
Strict action is being taken against influencers and platforms promoting them. Victims or whistleblowers were encouraged to report such platforms via WhatsApp at 8712672222.
