HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have filed a criminal case against administrators of a Facebook page for circulating an AI-generated and allegedly defamatory video targeting Telangana minister D Sridhar Babu and his wife, senior IAS officer Shailaja Ramaiyer.

Advocate Shashi Bhushan Kashe lodged the complaint. He alleged that the Facebook page “BRS Party Manthani” shared a reel containing false and misleading information about the minister.

The complaint states that the video used AI-generated and digitally altered visuals of Sridhar Babu and Shailaja Ramaiyer, who serves as Principal Secretary in the Endowments Department. It also accused them of involvement in corruption and embezzlement linked to the Saraswati Pushkaram event at Kaleshwaram, which they handled in their official roles.

Cybercrime police registered the case on June 27 under Sections 336(4), 353(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These sections cover forgery to harm reputation, statements causing public mischief, and intentional insult likely to provoke breach of peace.

Police said they have requested user details of the Facebook page administrators from Meta. The investigation is ongoing.
