Cybercrime helpline in Mumbai helps recover 300cr over 3 yrs from frauds | Mumbai News | #cybercrime | #infosec


Mumbai: Cybercrime helpline ‘1930′ has helped save over Rs 300 crore that citizens of Mumbai had lost to cybercrimes in the past three years. The helpline is managed by the Mumbai Cyber Police.Since its inception in May 2022, the ‘1930′ helpline has received 13 lakh calls from Mumbaikars in distress. Based on the information shared with the helpline over these calls, over 1 lakh cyber crime complaints have been registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting (NCRP) portal. These complaints chiefly pertain to share trading frauds, digital arrest frauds, task frauds, loan frauds, job frauds and shopping frauds. Once a complaint is received, the helpline staff gets in touch with nodal officials of the banks, wallet or merchants concerned and get the perpetrator’s account freezed.Between Jan and Aug 21 this year, the helpline has saved Rs 113 crore that Mumbaikars had lost to cybercriminals. During this period, mobile numbers of more than 11,000 cybercriminals were identified and blocked, said a police official.
