INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new report shows that cybercrimes are growing fast, creating serious threats to businesses and your personal information. Jane King has tips from experts on how you can protect yourself from cyberattacks.
Verizon just released a report on cyberattacks and found that they are increasing at an “alarming rate”.
The report analyzed more than 22,000 security incidents and found that third-party involvement in breaches has doubled to 30%, and exploitation of vulnerabilities has surged by 34%, creating a concerning threat landscape for businesses globally.
According to Chris Novak, Verizon’s vice president of global cybersecurity solutions, individuals and businesses should have a multi-layered approach to protection.
Novak says that includes strong password policies, timely patching of vulnerabilities, and comprehensive security awareness training for employees.
Verizon also found that ransomware attacks rose by 37% last year and are now present in 44% of data breaches despite a noticeable decrease in the median ransom amount paid. The percentage of breaches involving third parties doubled, which highlights the risks associated with supply chain and partner ecosystems.
Novak says the report serves as a wakeup call for people and businesses to take immediate action to strengthen their cybersecurity posture and mitigate the risks posed by cyberthreats.
