Denver’s Department of Technology Services is proud to announce the launch of Cyber Smart: Defend Denver, a new public awareness campaign kicking off this October in recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This month-long initiative is designed to empower residents with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves from an increasingly complex landscape of cyber threats.
A central feature of this year’s campaign is the debut of Stay Cyber Safe: Your Denver Protection Guide — a new, plain-language resource hub at denvergov.org/CyberSafe. This website provides practical tips to help every Denver resident stay protected from online scams, fraud, and cybercrime. Visitors can explore common scams targeting the community, adopt simple daily safety habits, and quickly find out what to do if something goes wrong. The guide is designed for all digital skill levels, making cybersecurity more approachable and actionable than ever before.
The Cyber Smart campaign will also feature weekly educational themes addressing key areas of digital security:
- Phishing, Smishing, Deepfakes, Email Scams, and QR Codes
- Password Security and Account Protection
- Data Privacy and AI
- Gift Card Scams
“Cyber threats in today’s world move fast, and they target people in ways that are increasingly personal,” said Merlin Namuth, Denver’s Chief Information Security Officer. “With the launch of our ‘Stay Cyber Safe’ website, Denver residents now have a clear, easy-to-understand resource that helps them recognize scams, protect their information, and take action if something doesn’t feel right. Our goal is to make cybersecurity simple, accessible, and part of everyday life.”
Throughout October, the City and County of Denver will share educational resources through its newsletter, The Denver Local, and social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn). The campaign will offer practical advice on spotting suspicious messages, strengthening passwords, practicing safe online habits, and navigating privacy in an AI-driven digital landscape.
Everyone has a role to play in defending against these targeted attacks, and the city’s goal is to provide valuable resources and tips community members can use to stay one step ahead.
