Lucknow: Director general of police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna has directed the launch of a seven-day statewide special drive, ‘Operation Cy-Vajra’, to intensify action against cyber criminals and strengthen victim-centric cyber policing across the state.The directions were issued during a high-level statewide review meeting held on Jul 6 to assess cybercrime control measures, improve cyber policing and ensure faster financial relief for victims of cyber fraud. The meeting was attended by DGP cybercrime BK Singh, DIG cybercrime Pawan Kumar, senior police officers from all police commissionerates and districts, cybercrime nodal officers, personnel from cyber police stations and cyber cells, and officials from the cybercrime headquarters.The DGP said cybercrime control has been accorded special priority among the 10 key focus areas identified after he assumed office, in line with chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s directions for stringent and result-oriented action against cyber criminals. He said sustained efforts to strengthen cyber policing, enhance the capabilities of cyber units, improve cyber intelligence-based investigations and provide prompt assistance to victims have placed UP Police among the leading states in the country in cybercrime control.Reviewing the state’s performance between Apr 1, 2025, and Jun 30, 2026, the DGP said that police had blocked 2,94,024 suspicious mobile numbers and 1,81,405 mobile devices (IMEIs) allegedly linked to cybercrimes. During the same period, police also placed a lien or hold on ₹530 crore involved in cyber financial fraud cases, preventing the money from reaching cyber criminals.Krishna directed all commissionerates and district units to ensure prompt registration and disposal of cybercrime complaints so that maximum funds could be frozen before being transferred to fraudsters.The DGP also reviewed the implementation of the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Module (GRM) developed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union ministry of home affairs.
