EL CENTRO — Central Union High School District officials issued a statement to parents and community members addressing ongoing questions and concerns surrounding a recent safety incident on campus.
District administrators emphasized that all threats involving local schools are treated with urgency and taken seriously. Officials noted that while law enforcement agencies carry out their legal proceedings, the school district maintains its own safety, investigative, and student discipline protocols to handle safety situations directly.
School officials stated that federal and state student privacy regulations prevent the district from disclosing specific details or discussing individual student matters publicly. However, leadership sought to reassure families that every report is thoroughly investigated and handled with appropriate corrective measures.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority,” the district reiterated in its message, encouraging parents and guardians to reach out through official school channels if they have additional questions about general campus safety procedures.
On Friday, Sept. 4, authorities arrested a juvenile student following an investigation into reported threats directed at Central Union High School, according to local law enforcement.
As previously reported, the El Centro Police Department launched an immediate investigation Sept. 4, 2026, after receiving intelligence concerning the school threats from the San Diego and Imperial County Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Working in coordination with school administrators and federal partners, ECPD’s School Resource Officer, local detectives, and agents from the FBI’s Imperial County Field Office quickly identified and took the juvenile suspect into custody.
“Based on the information gathered, investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is currently no indication of any additional or ongoing threat to the school or the community,” the department stated in a press release issued by Police Chief Kelly Brown.
Officials have not released the identity or age of the student due to their juvenile status and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Following the law enforcement action, the Central Union High School District issued an official community safety update acknowledging the police response. Emphasizing the severity of the situation, district officials reminded students and parents that “making a school threat is no joke! It’s a crime.”
