A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy played a key role in the arrest of an alleged online child predator.
Deputy Mackenzie “Mack” Miller played a key role in the recent arrest of 32-year-old James Martin for coercion and enticement of a child for sexual activity, according to a release from the DCSO.
Martin was taken into custody on Thursday, February 13 following an undercover operation involving the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Pocatello Police Department.
The investigation began when Miller, serving as an HSI Reno Task Force Officer, engaged in an online conversation with Martin.
Posing as a 13-year-old girl, Deputy Miller documented Martin’s unlawful communications, which ultimately resulted in Martin arranging a meeting with the child persona.
On February 13, Martin arrived at a prearranged location in Pocatello, Idaho, where he was arrested by HSI Idaho Falls, HSI Reno, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Pocatello Police Department, and the Idaho ICAC Task Force. The arrest was made without incident.
