The Register reports that Dutch healthcare software vendor ChipSoft has been taken offline following a ransomware attack, impacting approximately 80% of the nation’s healthcare facilities. The cyberattack, confirmed by Z-CERT, the Netherlands’ computer emergency response team for healthcare, occurred on April 7, 2026. While ChipSoft’s public-facing website is unreachable, most hospitals can still access their patient portals. However, 11 hospitals have taken their software offline, with nine of those using the system more extensively. The specific ransomware group responsible has not yet been identified. Z-CERT is advising affected institutions to audit their ChipSoft systems for unusual activity and report any findings. The attack on ChipSoft follows similar incidents, including a significant breach at a Eurofins subsidiary in 2025 and a ransomware attack on the AZ Monica hospital network in Belgium in January 2026. These events underscore the critical need for robust disaster recovery plans to ensure continuity of care during digital outages, as emphasized by Z-CERT director Wim Hafkamp.Source: The Register
