Mokokchung, September 8 (MExN): Amid the commemoration of decades of hard work, growth and achievements, concerns over drug abuse, cybercrime and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) featured prominently as Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, celebrated its 67th Foundation Day on September 8.
Addressing the gathering as Guest of Honour, Vesupra Kezo, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, cautioned students about the challenges posed by technology and substance abuse, stressing that information and technological advancement must be accompanied by discipline, character and responsibility.
On drug abuse, he said one wrong decision can harm not only an individual but also relationships and society. He urged students to make responsible choices and protect themselves, their friends and the wider community.
Addressing the growing use of technology, Kezo observed that “information is not wisdom”, and said technology cannot provide discipline, character and a sense of responsibility. He also urged students to use technology responsibly in the context of cybercrime.
On AI, he said it “should not be a threat” but should be used to enhance human thinking rather than replace it. He stressed the importance of integrity, empathy, compassion, creativity and humanity, and urged students to build character, discipline and respect.
Kezo also congratulated the college community and acknowledged its pioneers and former members. Describing the college as more than infrastructure, he termed it a “temple of new ideas and innovations” that prepares young people for life and contribution to society.
Earlier, the Foundation Day programme began with the college anthem, followed by Principal Dr I Wati Imchen’s address highlighting the college’s achievements, activities and development.
The programme also included a special song by the Music Club and a drama by the Drama Club, besides the felicitation of academic achievers, university toppers and other awardees.
Thailung Phom received the 2026 Evangelical Union Student of the Year Award, while Aosashi Kichu received the FAC Alumni Association Award for Student of the Year.
Three NCC cadets were also recognised for outstanding performance.
Among the university toppers, Temjenmenla Pongen secured Rank 1 in Ao, Tarenkala Y Lemtur Rank 1 in Geography and Imlimenla O Rank 1 in Mathematics. Other toppers included Tsuktisosang (Rank 7, Sociology), Imkongtula Jamir (Rank 4, Zoology), Merenrenla (Rank 5, Zoology), Naong Mansa C (Rank 6, Zoology), Tasakala (Rank 7, Zoology) and Redila (Rank 10, Zoology).
