WASHINGTON (TNND) — FBI agents have arrested another suspected co-conspirator linked to ShinyHunters, the cybercrime group believed to be behind the recent breach of FBIJobs.gov, FBI Director Kash Patel said Friday.
“Our agents in the field have arrested another suspected co-conspirator of the ShinyHunters group,” Patel wrote on X, calling it the latest arrest made “in a matter of days” as investigators work to dismantle the network.
ShinyHunters is a cyberextortion group that hacks companies to steal data and threatens to publish it on the dark web unless it is paid. Patel said the FBI believes the group was behind the FBIJobs.gov incident, which involved a platform managed by a third-party vendor.
He did not identify the newly arrested suspect, say where the arrest occurred or announce any charges.
The arrest follows the FBI’s announcement last month that Dutch police had taken into custody an alleged leader of ShinyHunters, a global group linked to attacks in the United States, the Netherlands and elsewhere.
The FBI has been investigating ShinyHunters’ claim that it stole personal data belonging to bureau employees through the FBI jobs portal. The group alleged it obtained sensitive files, including agents’ personal information.
Patel said the FBI will continue working with international partners to pursue remaining members and associates of the group “no matter where they operate.”
