GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation District 2 is partnering with the University of Florida and the University of Florida Police Department in addition to local safety organizations for a “Stay Safe, Stay Cool” event on the first day of fall classes.
The event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of 13th Street and University Avenue in Gainesville.
FDOT and safety partners will engage with students, faculty, and residents during this time to promote vital Target Zero safety practices such as properly using crosswalks, wearing helmets, avoiding texting while driving, and not driving under the influence.
About Target Zero
Target Zero is FDOT’s statewide initiative aimed at eliminating transportation-related serious injuries and fatalities across Florida. On average, eight people are killed and 49 are seriously injured on Florida’s roads each day. Target Zero focuses on changing dangerous driver behaviors through education, data-driven strategies, and community engagement to help make Florida’s roads safer for everyone.
