NAPLES, Fla. — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is joining law enforcement officials in Naples on Wednesday to announce the convictions of six child predators and their decades-long prison sentences.Uthmeier announced six child sexual abuse material predator cases resulting in men now behind bars. The cases represent the latest in thousands of arrests his office has made. Two people are from Cape Coral, two from Okeechobee, one from Naples and another from Bonita Springs. The shortest sentence is 24 and a half years. The highest is over 125 years.Several of them have been sentenced, and two of them have been found guilty. Uthmeier says they possessed and shared hundreds of files of child pornography, many involving toddlers. He says these sentences are an effort to give appropriate consequences as well as to send a message to others to stay away from kids. Some of the tactics used to find predators involve using social media with officials looking for certain words and requests. The hope of the attorney general is that by stopping it online, it stops it from turning into something physical.”Thousands and thousands of child predators taken down in the state of Florida just in the last year and a half alone. We’re only getting started, I promise you this, if there’s anything we’re gonna do in Florida, if there’s anything law enforcement is going to prioritize it is going to be protecting our little ones,” Uthmeier said.In efforts to protect minors, Florida has passed legislation that does not allow children under the age of 14 to have social media. Uthmeier says more ways to protect children from predators are underway.Watch the full livestream below:
