Free senior seminar in Flint aims to fight AI-driven scams and cyber fraud | #datingscams #romancescams

FLINT, Mich.— A free seminar is coming to Flint to help protect seniors from scams and cyber fraud.

Online scams are getting particularly more sophisticated due to the usage of AI, according to Attorney General Dana Nessel. Scammers can clone a person’s voice using audio data collected from public social media posts or videos. They can then call victims, spoofing the phone number of a loved one to impersonate them in distress and make urgent demands for money.

The Senior AI Safety Seminar will teach older adults about cybersecurity, artificial intelligence safety, scam prevention and help improve their digital literacy.

This includes identifying and avoiding common online scams, recognizing identity theft, and how to protect their personal information online.

Attorney General Nessel’s alert also notes that scams often share common warning signs, including high-pressure tactics to act immediately, use of fear or enticing offers, or demands for sensitive information or unusual payment methods.

The seminar will take place on Friday, March 20th at 2 p.m. at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.
