Gallagher Security has appointed Jonathan Finan as Technical Account Manager for the Central North Island, bringing the long-serving employee back to New Zealand.
Finan has spent more than 14 years with the company in roles across technical support, training, engineering and business development. He has worked in New Zealand, the United States and Canada, gaining experience in several markets before taking up the regional position.
In his new role, he will support partners and customers across the Central North Island as Gallagher works to strengthen technical support and partner relationships in the region.
Finan described his career with the company as a steady process of development across different functions.
“It’s been exactly that, a journey. Each role has added something, whether it’s technical knowledge or business acumen. The key is to always stay open to learning something new,” said Jonathan Finan, Technical Account Manager, Gallagher Security.
His career has spanned front-line technical work and commercial responsibilities, a combination that is often important in security businesses, where staff working with installers, integrators and end customers need both product knowledge and an understanding of operational requirements.
He said his international experience reinforced the similarities between markets despite differences in language and business culture.
“While the terminology and accents may differ, the fundamentals of the industry remain the same, it’s about using the best available technology to achieve the right outcomes for customers,” said Finan.
The appointment brings him back to New Zealand after his time overseas, a move he said was driven by both personal and professional factors.
“I’ve always loved New Zealand and knew I’d return at some point. With the timing right, it felt like the perfect opportunity to come back, step into a new role, and continue my Gallagher journey,” said Finan.
Regional focus
The Central North Island is a key operating area for many security suppliers, with customers across commercial property, the public sector, health services, education and industry. Technical account managers in these regions typically work closely with channel partners and end users on system deployment, maintenance and ongoing support.
Gallagher expects Finan to combine technical expertise with a relationship-led approach as he works with customers and partners across the territory.
“I’m a people person, I enjoy building relationships and working alongside customers to deliver solutions that really make a difference. I’m looking forward to collaborating with our partners and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in security,” said Finan.
Experience mix
Steve Cooke, Sales Manager at Gallagher Security, said Finan’s background across technical and commercial roles would strengthen the regional team.
“Jonathan’s breadth of experience across technical and commercial roles, combined with his international perspective, brings real strength to our Central North Island team,” said Steve Cooke, Sales Manager, Gallagher Security.
Cooke said Finan’s product knowledge and customer focus were central to the appointment.
“He has a deep understanding of Gallagher’s technology and a genuine passion for helping customers succeed. We’re excited to have him back in New Zealand and know he will make an immediate impact supporting our partners and customers in the region,” said Cooke.
Gallagher supplies integrated security systems for government, commercial and institutional customers in the global security market. The company says it serves customers in 140 countries.
For Gallagher, the return of a long-serving employee with overseas experience also highlights the value many technology and security firms place on retaining staff who have developed knowledge of both products and channel networks over time.
Finan said the company’s culture had been a major reason for both staying with the business and returning for this next role.
“Gallagher’s biggest differentiator has always been its people. That culture is something special, and it’s a big part of why I’ve stayed for so long. I’m excited to be back and to make a meaningful impact in this next chapter,” said Finan.
