Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, addressing concerns in the state assembly on July 28, announced that all cybercrime cases—including cyber fraud—can now be registered at any police station in Goa. The move aims to ease the reporting process for victims, many of whom previously had to travel to the Cyber Cell headquarters in Ribandar to lodge complaints.
The issue was raised by MLA Nilesh Cabral, who highlighted that victims from remote areas often face significant inconvenience in reaching Ribandar. He urged the government to enable all police stations to register cybercrime complaints to make the process more accessible and citizen-friendly.
Responding to the concerns, CM Sawant said he would instruct the Director General of Police (DGP) to direct all police stations to accept cybercrime complaints immediately. Once a case is filed at the local level, it will be forwarded to the Cyber Cell in Ribandar for detailed investigation and follow-up action.
“Cyber fraud is a rising threat, and we do not want victims to face further hardship when seeking help,” Sawant stated. “All police stations will be equipped to register such cases and coordinate with the Cyber Cell when needed.”
He added that uniform guidelines would be issued to ensure consistency in handling cybercrime complaints throughout the state.
The new directive is expected to make reporting quicker and investigations more responsive, by tapping into the wider state police infrastructure rather than relying solely on a centralized unit.
