GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — The Great Lakes Region 2026 Child Safety Conference is scheduled for May 7 at the Central High School Auditorium.

The event beginning at 4 p.m. focuses on protecting children within the community, schools, sports and colleges.

Rachael Denhollander, an attorney and the first woman to pursue criminal charges against USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, will serve as the keynote speaker. Denhollander is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. May 7 at the auditorium regarding trauma-informed care for injured students.

The conference features several experts in child safety and law enforcement. Chris Rozman, deputy chief of police for the Michigan State University Police Department, will discuss campus safety at 4 p.m. Rozman has served with the department for 25 years and managed security during the 2023 shooting on the Michigan State University campus.

At 5 p.m., Jenna Baker, the director of prevention for the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center, and Noelle Moeggenberg, Grand Traverse County prosecuting attorney, will present on bullying and abuse prevention. Both leaders focus on protection initiatives and legal cases involving domestic violence and sexual assault across Northern Michigan.

James Marsh, founding partner of Marsh Law Firm in New York, is scheduled to speak at 6 p.m. about preventing and responding to online exploitation. Marsh has more than 30 years of experience advocating for survivors of sexual abuse and has been instrumental in passing major sexual abuse laws.
