The latest suspect in the Grovetown Police Department’s sting of child predator suspects is a Hephzibah man accused of sending explicit photographs of himself to someone he thought was a juvenile girl.

William Gene Burnett Jr., 56, was arrested Monday as part of the continuing investigations arising from the recent “Operation Fourth Take” by Grovetown police and the GBI.

During the recent operation, Burnett repeatedly contacted what he believed to be a child over the course of several days, describing in graphic detail the sexual interactions that he was wanting to have with the “child” and also sending explicit photographs of himself, Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens said in a press release.

“As with all others, Mr. Burnett was advised multiple times that he was communicating with a ‘child,’ yet he continued to send the graphic and explicit communications while also attempting to arrange to meet the ‘child’ in person,” Kitchens said in a press release.

Burnett was taken into custody Monday by members of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office – Crime Suppression Team at his residence and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta. He will be transferred to the Columbia County Detention Center in the coming days to face charges of Computer or Electronic Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention.

Chief Kitchens said more operation-related arrests are expected as they continue to identify suspects.
