GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Grovetown police say they’ve arrested a man suspected of being a child predator.

On Wednesday around 5 a.m., police arrested Michael David McClain, 38, of Hephzibah, on suspicion of computer or electronic pornography and violation of the Child Exploitation Prevention Act.

Police said they arrested him at his workplace in the 400 block of Park West Drive.

Beginning in May, McClain began chatting on a social media app with what he believed to be a juvenile female, police said.

Despite being advised multiple times that he was conversing with a juvenile, McClain continued to send sexually explicit messages while also discussing meeting in person, police said.

During the chats, McClain sent multiple nude photographs of himself again despite being reminded that he was conversing with a juvenile, police said.

Upon being taken into custody, McClain was transported to the Grovetown Police Department, where he admitted during an interview to the chats and sending the photographs, police said.

Based on his statements, other jurisdictions have been notified and investigations into McClain’s admissions are currently underway.

McClain was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.
